Key team members have been working with Bailey vehicles for over 15 years, and we benefit from Bailey’s 70+ years of product design and development expertise.
Our history...
In 2016, Bailey Parts Ltd. was registered as a separate company. We moved premises from within the Bailey factory to our dedicated warehouse in North Bristol, allowing us to expand our product range.
We changed our name to PRIMA Leisure in 2019 to reflect our broad portfolio as we continue supporting Bailey customers whilst welcoming other leisure vehicle owners.
In 1947 the first Bailey caravan was built by Martin Bailey in his garage in South Bristol and was subsequently sold at Ashton Gate market for the sum of £200. A year later in 1948 F G Bailey Ltd was formed and went into production with its first model - the Bailey Maestro making us the longest established touring caravan company in the UK, if not Europe.
The end of post-war rationing saw a growth in the popularity of caravans to be used for both holidays and temporary accommodation. Bailey expanded its range to cater for this dual market opportunity by adding smaller tourers such as the Minor and Maritza to its range as well as introducing the Maison, an 18ft caravan designed specifically as an immediate solution to the housing shortage. Although basic by modern standards caravans began to feature more home comforts such as a two burner stove, carpeting and fully sprung upholstery.
Bailey enhances its reputation as a moderniser by adopting a more customer focussed approach to product development by renewing one range at a time as and when the market demands, rather than changing everything on an arbitrary date every twelve months. The first range to receive this treatment was the Pageant Series 5 which went onto to top the best-sellers list for two and a half years whilst remaining completely unchanged.
In 2009 the company introduced the Alu-Tech body shell construction system which is seen by many observers as the most significant development in leisure vehicle production technology for three decades. Providing genuine design innovation, this fully patented technology, helped produce better engineered and more technically advanced caravans the first of which was the Bailey Pegasus. This proved to be a runaway success and Alu-Tech was quickly adopted across all product ranges.
Bailey expands its overseas operations with the appointment of new distributors in both Australia and New Zealand for the first time.
Bailey tackled the economic slowdown head on with further land acquisition and diversification into new markets most notably in 2011 with the launch its first motorhome range the Approach SE. Offering the same core values of first class build quality, award-winning design and unbeatable value for money Bailey has quickly established itself in this market and has plans to expand its motorhome range in the near future.
On Thursday 22nd November 2012 Her Majesty The Queen accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh visited Bailey of Bristol to mark the 65th Anniversary of the construction of the first Bailey Caravan. Commenting on reaching this major milestone Bailey Chairman, Patrick Howard, said - We are extremely proud of what we have achieved together as a company over the past sixty-five years and to be part of an industry which remains one of the great British manufacturing success stories.
Prima Leisure Ltd (also trading as Bailey Parts) moves into a purpose-built 12,000-square-foot site, offering a broad product range and after-sales support for our industry-leading parts supply service.
Flagship PRIMA air awning range is launched at the NEC, backed by 70 years of British caravanning heritage.
2018 saw the change from Bailey Parts Ltd to Prima Leisure Ltd - home of Bailey Parts. This came with the launch of a new look for the online shop along with plans for the year including developing new PRIMA products and improving the customer shopping experience.
