Quick guide to camping out at the British Grand Prix

The British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone is one of the highlights of the UK’s sporting year and in 2017 the mayhem runs from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th July. Lewis Hamilton and Jolyon Palmer are the Brits competing in the new, much faster 2017 spec F1 cars.

A pitch to remember

If you’re looking for a camping weekend away with a difference, this is definitely it. While the racing cars are the stars, there’s a fantastic festival atmosphere all weekend-long and the circuit’s official Woodlands campsite is at the heart of the action – you’ll have the opportunity to pitch up just 150m away from the actual track! Choose between the 'lively' campsite or the 'family' campsite where you can guaranty a child-friendly atmosphere and some peace and quiet at bed time.

With live music and other performances, a petrol-head pub, beer tents, restaurants, motor sport themed events and kids’ activities for families, there’s plenty for everyone, whether you’re camping under canvas or in the caravan or motorhome (there are limited electrical hook ups to book).

Get your grill on

Either way, how about getting your grill on with a BBQ? The portable gas-fuelled BBQs from Cadac are increasingly popular and plug in directly to caravan BBQ points, or run off gas cylinders. With paella pan and pizza stone options, you're not limited to traditional burgers and sausages, and the whole kit is easy to clean. If you're travelling light or on a budget, why not go the disposable route with a nifty BBQ and stand?

One other thing if you’ve never been before: take some decent ear plugs. These cars have to be heard to be believed!

If you want a slice of the action, you’ll need race tickets to gain entry to the campsite. To find out more, head over to the Silverstone Woodlands website.
