Celebrating Christmas In Your Caravan Or Motorhome

Celebrating Christmas In Your Caravan Or Motorhome

Christmas is a great time to get away, but how do you celebrate the traditional way when space is at a premium, if you want the full Xmas roast and trimmings?  Here are a few ideas on how to make the big day go perfectly.

Food Prep

There’s always a lot of cutting and chopping involved when it comes to preparing the Xmas lunch, so if you’re travelling a day or so before, how about preparing some of the dishes at home?

The Outwell ECOcool cool box provides 35 litres of additional fridge space for your veg or bird. As it runs off 12 volt or 230 volt, it’s perfect for in transit and as a ‘beer fridge' when you’re pitched. It will also keep food warm at about 50 – 60°C, making it a great addition to the party.

If you’d rather prepare when you arrive, flexible chopping mats will make meal prepping much easier. You can directly transport food and reduce spillage. They are also very easy to store and transport. Prima has an excellent Feast Set of saucepanswhich sport removable handles and fit together Russian Doll style. If you need extra tools for preparing your meal, the Outwell Collaps kitchen range is available online and in-stores. Smart, stylish and practical, there’s something for all your cooking needs. Each item folds up for easy storage and transportation.

Expand The Cooking Facilities

One (or no) oven for turkey, potatoes and parsnips? Only two or three rings for the veg, gravy and all that Xmas pudding? That will sound familiar to many caravan and motorhome owners, but you’re not out of the game!

A microwave oven is ideal for crunchy, well-cooked veg and frees up valuable hob space. We stock the Sharp R274SLM standalone oven, which is 20 litres and weighs in at a little over 10 kilos.

Or, if you’re a Bailey owner, go for the fitted route with our nifty Daewoo stainless steel model. This is compatible with many Bailey caravans and motor homes.

Barbecue The Bird

This may seem a bit radical, but the Australians do it all the time and it’s ideal if you can cook outdoors! Indirect heat is the key! You’ll need a barbecue or oven with a lid and a decent roasting pan that will spread the heat for even cooking.
Our pick is the Cadac Carri Chef 2 gas barbecue combined with the optional roasting pan.
The 42 cm diameter pan and domed lid (with a built-in thermometer) can accommodate a decent-sized bird and cook it to perfection.
Charlotte, Prima Marketing Manager, recommends basting the bird in butter and adding lemon, rosemary and garlic. Keep a little water in the pan’s base for moisture and allow 20 minutes per pound plus 20 minutes over at 180°C. Check the bird is thoroughly cooked through before serving.

Set The Table

How about setting the scene with a festive table setting? Choose from a wide range of colourful placemats and cutlery sets to add to the scene.

We also stock our own Prima 24 piece cutlery sets in festive red and a colourful range of placemats to complete the scene.

Traveling light is key, so how about swapping your china and glass for some quality alternatives? Reimo polycarbonate wine glasses are break and scratch resistant and Outwells Bamboo and Blossom dining sets are stylish, light and virtually unbreakable. Perfect for a Christmas feast in a caravan or motorhome.

Getting The Party Started

Get the party started with the rechargeable Outwell Obsidian Lamp. It’s a camping lamp and phone charger, with high quality speaker and amplifier built-in. Plug in your player via Bluetooth and you’re ready to go.

Prima inflatable awnings will add a whole new dimension to the festivities. You can pitch them in a couple of minutes and they offer useful party space, as well as optional bedroom and storage annexes (Deluxe model) if your guests have come to stay.

Whatever your plans this Christmas, our warmest seasonal wishes and very best for 2018!
