Don't Get In A Jam: Introducing The Avtex Tourer One

Negotiating today’s busy roads and winding back routes is tricky enough in a car, but there’s a whole added challenge when you’re driving a motorhome or towing a caravan or a boat. Low bridges, narrow roads, and traffic bottlenecks, are just waiting to catch you out and sat navs designed for cars can actually make things a whole lot worse if you put too much faith in the routes they suggest.

At Prima, we thoroughly recommend the Avtex sat nav range, which is designed and built specifically for motorhome and towing drivers, in association with Garmin and the leading camping and caravan clubs. The feature-packed Tourer One Caravan & Motorhome Club Edition in particular is a best seller in-store, online and at shows.

Avoid Unsuitable Roads And Bridges In 45 European Countries

As well as being loaded with detailed maps for much of Europe, the Tourer One has a constantly updated database of road restrictions, including bridge heights, weight limits, steep gradients, narrow roads and even sharp curves.

Enter the weight and size of your motorhome or towing set-up as a ‘profile’ (you can store multiple versions) and the system will automatically rule out unsuitable routes. It also processes real-time Garmin traffic data via DAB, with updates every 60 seconds.

You can hook the device up to your phone via blue tooth for hands-free calling or to download weather and other data; and there’s Wi-Fi connectivity, to link up to four of these wireless cameras to your sat nav screen.

Sat Nav Displays That Star Quality!

The Tourer One screens come in at 6 and 7 inches, so they look right at home in a larger motorhome cab and serve up the information you need with stunning clarity.

Active Lane Guidance & Photo Real Junction Views are especially useful in unfamiliar cities or on busy auto routes and you can see traffic information, points of interest and speed limits at a glance, with plenty of customisation.

There’s a sensitive touch screen to programme the device, although we’re especially taken with the sensitive voice control. This is an absolute Godsend if you’re driving and want to find a local filling station or rest stop while keeping your hands firmly on the wheel.

Navigate To Quality Campsites Using The Tourer One

The Caravan & Motorhome Club Editions come packed with the ACSI directory of over 9,000 quality campsites, as well as the Club’s own points of interest (POIs), such as filling stations, rest areas and restaurants.

Needless to say, you can update the directory online and there are services under development to integrate availability information and even booking facilities right into the Tourer One. It’s very much a case of ‘watch this widescreen space’.

Plan Your Motor Home or Caravan Holiday Route

Another feature we love is the ability to input way points into your route planning. If there’s a particular place you’d like to visit on the journey, simply key it in and the Tourer One will incorporate it into the overall route.  Another nice touch is free lifetime digital traffic services and European maps – and you can even update via the inbuilt Wi-Fi without connecting to a computer.
