Caravan BBQs: Which Road Will You Go?

Barbecue season is here and up and down the country, in gardens, on beaches and on campsites, you’ll find the heady aroma of burgers, veggie kebabs and big juicy steaks filling the air. BBQs and caravans go together perfectly. It’s all part of the holiday to cook and eat outside, and on a practical note - it gives you another cooking option should the facilities in your van be a bit limited.

So, what is the  best caravan BBQ? It depends on what you need.

Gas BBQs For The Campsite

Rules vary from site to site, but the chances are you’ll be okay if you’re using a decent gas barbecue. The larger gas BBQs are probably out of the question, unless you want to tow them behind the caravan, but there are some great mid-sized ones.

A terrific option, which you’ll find on in our store, is the Cadac Grillo Chef 2. New for 2018, it features a 37cm cooking plate, making it large enough to barbecue for up to 6 people. The included chef pan then greatly expands your options if you want to cook pasta, stews and soups. For a little bit extra, you can have a cooking set for a multitude of meals with the Grillo Chef 2 Grill/Chef Pan Combo BBQ, which comes with a chef pan and BBQ grill plate included. Grill plates are made with ceramic coating meaning it is now safer, greener and much easier to clean. Just simply use soap and water, or a dishwasher and the grease will melt away!

This amazing gas BBQ sports removable aluminium legs and packs down into a durable, compact carrying case. Weighing just 6KG it’s ideal for caravan or motorhome use and will run off gas from your caravan connected through a hose no more than 2m in length. Another option is to use two 500kg canisters and use the Cadac Double Pak Regulator to connect to your BBQ.

Barbecues For Beach Picnics

If you want a BBQ that’s really portable, for the beach, a picnic, or a short camping trip, there are always instant or disposable barbecues. They weigh next to nothing and come packaged with treated charcoal to help you light them.

Be aware though, many campsites and picnic locations won’t accept disposable BBQs, due to the heat damage they can cause to the ground, but they’re more likely to be allowed if you use a disposable barbecue stand so be prepared.

Available in a pack of three, they’re a good option recommended for casual use.

A Truly Portable Gas BBQ

Instant barbecues have their place, but how about a portable gas BBQ that will serve two people really well, on the campsite, on a picnic or on the beach? The Cadac Safari Chef 2 Pro is something of a design classic in the outdoor world, packing an incredible number of features into a compact package weighing just 5 kilos.

For your investment you get a self-lighting gas burner with foldable legs, a barbecue grill, a griddle plate, a pot stand and a lid which will double as a paella pan for stews, breakfasts and naturally enough, paella! This model uses a regulator (optional extra) to run off Coleman C500 gas cartridges or your caravan gas supply, as required. When not in use, it folds down into a tough carrying bag that won't weight you down if you take it to the beach.

BBQ Accessories

Once you’ve sorted out your barbecue, don’t forget to pack all the BBQ tools a chef needs from spatulas to other useful BBQ accessories such as quick release tailpiece couplings, and gas BBQ regulators.

Expand you grilling skills with extra pans to make your grill more versatile. From pizza stones and tapas sets to paella pans and skewer sets you can find a great selection of BBQ accessories to enjoy wonderful al fresco dining. With all the additional Cadac pans and tools you will soon become a barbecue master.

BBQ Safety When Camping

Be very careful when using gas or instant barbecues on campsites. Observe campsite or picnic area rules and be careful to keep your BBQ away from flammable items such as awnings, clothing, spare gas canisters and children.

If you go for a gas BBQ, it will be important to regularly do a leak test on your BBQ gas bottle, regulator and hose. Leaks from any of these items are frequently the cause of BBQ gas fires.

The Gas Stop Emergency Gas Shut-off Valve is a great accessory to help you avoid any gas leaks. This brilliant accessory is an emergency 100% shut-off device for bottled and portable gas systems including Propane LPG.  It can detect any leaks and automatically cut off gas supply, giving you that extra peace of mind.
